Premier League Transfer Rumours: Hart, Gimenez, Lucas, Rodriguez and More

Manchester City v Sunderland - Premier League

What is the latest on Joe Hart's potential exit from Manchester City? How much will Arsenal have to cough up if they want to land Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez? Which is the newest European giant being linked with Liverpool's Lucas Leiva? And could Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez be set for a fresh start and a new chapter?

Learn the answers to these questions and more in today's roundup of Premier League transfer rumours.

11. Serie A Holds the Centre-Back Answer for Swansea

Swindon Town v Swansea City - Pre-Season Friendly

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin has hinted that a replacement for departed captain Ashley Williams may lie in Serie A - the club is yet to dip into the transfer market for another centre-back despite the Welsh hero leaving more than a week ago.

"We still need another centre-half. I have spoken frequently with the chairman. We have a shortlist and we are working on it," Guidolin is quoted as saying by Wales Online.

"There are five, six, seven players on the shortlist, there are players I know better as they play in Serie A but for me it is not a problem. We need another player and I am optimistic.”

10. Stoke Close in on Giant Scottish Youngster

Middlebrough,Stoke City,Riverside,

Stoke City are believed to be closing in on giant Scottish defender Harry Souttar after reportedly agreeing a deal with Dundee United worth in excess of £200,000.

According to the Courier in Dundee, the Potters will pay £100,000 up front for the young centre-back, who is due to travel south to be shown around Stoke's facilities.

Despite only being 17 years of age, Souttar is already enormous at 6 ft 7 in tall.

9. Only One Thing Will Schtopp Baggies Pursuing Schlupp

Leicester City v Everton - Premier League

According to the Birmingham Mail, West Brom are considering yet another offer for Leicester wide-man Jeff Schlupp. Multiple bids have already been rejected and it is said that a £12m proposal is now in the pipelines.

The Foxes are determined to keep Schlupp, but the local newspaper has reason to believe that the Baggies will not give up unless the Ghanaian international formally commits his future to Leicester with a new contract.

8. Chance of a Fresh Start for J-Rod at Hull

Twente Enschede v FC Southampton - Friendly Match

It's been a tough two years for Jay Rodriguez. He was on the verge of going to the 2014 World Cup with England until a devastating knee injury stopped his career in its tracks, with the time since characterised by frustrating setbacks and struggles for fitness.

Now, according to the Sun, Hull are keen on offering the 27-year-old a chance of more regular football with a potential season-long loan that may be best suited to all parties.

Finally fit, Rodriguez is way down the pecking order at Southampton, while Hull are desperate for players and are thought to be prioritising loans over permanent deals because of the ongoing takeover talk.

7. Essien Back at Chelsea? Yes, But Not Quite

Chelsea v Singha Thailand All-Star XI

Injuries ensured that Michael Essien made 30 or more Premier League appearances in only three of the seven full seasons he spent at Stamford Bridge, not including a campaign on loan at Real Madrid.

But after the Ghanaian legend's release by Panathinaikos, the Sun has revealed that the 33-year-old is now training with his former club once more. Rather than winding back the clock, however, it appears to be a temporary thing as Essien works on his fitness while he searches for a new club.

Chelsea are continuing their reinforcement efforts by apparently targeting highly rated Wolfsburg and Switzerland full-back Ricardo Rodriguez in a £22m move.

6. Everton Target Biding Time After Deal Allegedly Agreed

Sport Witness has gathered a number of reports from France regarding Everton's rumoured pursuit of Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal.

It is said that the Toffees have agreed an €11m deal for the Algerian international, who has also been linked with West Ham in recent weeks. For the time being, however, Ghezzal is thought to be considering all the options available to him rather than rushing into anything.

Flop striker Oumar Niasse definitely has no Everton future after being told by manager Ronald Koeman that the only way he will be playing football this season if is he's doing somewhere other than Goodison Park.

Maybe he could go to West Ham? Just kidding. They do still want a striker, though.

5. Spurs Eye Young Espanyol Stopper

Real CD Espanyol v Athletic Club - La Liga

Looking for a new goalkeeper to develop for the future, Tottenham are reportedly targeting young Espanyol stopper Pau Lopez.

According to Sky Sports, Spurs are interested in the 21-year-old talent, while reports in Spain have even claimed that talks over an initial loan are underway. It is not, however, simply related to the injury that is currently keeping Hugo Lloris out of action.

Mauricio Pochettino already has first-hand knowledge of Lopez. The Girona-born player was rising through the ranks of Espanyol's academy when the Argentine was in charge of the La Liga club's first team between 2009 and 2012.

4. Milan Emerge as Latest Potential Destination for Lucas

Tranmere Rovers v Liverpool - Pre-Season Friendly

Italian publication Tuttosport has named Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva as a possible target for struggling giant AC Milan. The Turin-based newspaper notes that the Brazilian possesses an Italian passport and has just one more year left on his current contract.

Lucas has been heavily linked with an exit for some time, recently to Galatasaray.

Elsewhere, Christian Benteke is on the verge of sealing his £27m, rising to £32m, move to Crystal Palace after Alan Pardew confirmed that a medical is scheduled and talks over personal terms will get underway.

3. Any More Signings Now Highly Unlikely for Man Utd

AFC Bournemouth v Manchester United - Premier League
According to the Daily Mail, only a sudden must not miss opportunity will see Manchester United conduct any more business in the transfer market this summer after already capturing Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba.

Club officials are said to be delighted with the £156m spend, and staff have reportedly been told not to expect any further new faces. Only a handful of loan exits are now likely.

"You can never rule anything in or out but they are expecting Pogba to be the last new arrival in the window," a source told the Mail.

"Things can change quickly, but other than a number of players heading out on loan, don’t expect to see much more activity."

2. Arsenal Will Have to Trigger €65m Clause to Land Gimenez

FC Bayern Muenchen v Club Atletico de Madrid - UEFA Champions League Semi Final: Second Leg

Earlier this week it was claimed that Arsenal were in talks with Atletico Madrid star Jose Gimenez in their hunt for a new centre-back.

At the time it was suggested that Atletico would demand £40m. But now a report from Marca is suggesting that the Gunners will have to trigger the 21-year-old's release clause, which is significantly more at €65m (£56m).

If there were already serious doubts about Arsenal paying £40m, you can be sure that a price hike of almost 50% will be enough to put the frustratingly frugal Arsene Wenger off pursuing Gimenez any further.

As far as the developing Shkodran Mustafi saga is concerned, the Valencia player's father has suggested that the Gunners face potential competition from a few other clubs.

1. No Go for Joe if It's Only a Loan

Manchester City v Sunderland - Premier League

Despite claims that Joe Hart could leave Manchester City on loan, the Sun has reported that only a permanent deal worth £30m or more will be acceptable to the former champions.

A short-term solution is therefore not on the table - City seemingly don't want to aid any of their Premier League rivals unless they are significantly compensated for it. Everton continue to be most heavily linked with the 29-year-old.

City's proposed deal for Claudio Bravo is edging closer to completion after Barcelona are reported to have struck an agreement with Ajax stopper Jasper Cillessen as a replacement.

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News believes that City could yet make one final attempt to land Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus before the transfer window closes. The key factor will be the perception of just how fit Vincent Kompany is and is likely to stay, or not.
