The initial bid of £750k was rejected by the Wanderers, but the second bid was clearly too good to turn down, and has been accepted according to local Bolton newspaper, The Bolton News.
The paper understands that Holding
has already completed a medical at the Emirates on Monday and will
discuss personal terms over the course of the week.
Two other Premier League sides were also in contact with the England Under-21 player after a series of glowing reviews with Bolton in the Championship season.
It
may come as a surprise as the transfer looked to be dead after the
initial bid was rejected in May. Holding even pulled out of the
match-day squad ahead of Bolton's last league game versus Fulham, amid
discussions with the North London club.
Bolton then triggered a one-year extension clause in his contract making it look like any deal was out of sight.
Despite
featuring 30 times for his club last season however, the 20-year-old
was unable to keep the Wanderers afloat in the Championship, and were
relegated to League One. Bolton initially wanted to have Holding
returned on loan for the forthcoming season, but that too looks unlikely
to happen.
It
is estimated to have cost the Gunners around £2m, as that was Bolton's
stern estimation of the centre-half. New Bolton manager Phil Parkinson
had the defender pencilled in to start a friendly game versus Tranmere
on Tuesday night, which may not be a possibility anymore.
Parkinson told the Bolton News: “As
far as I know there is interest from a number of Premiership clubs. The
chairman has got a valuation in mind and I don’t think he will budge
from that.
